Why take Cortisone Shots: Cortisone shots may be part of treatment for a number of diseases and conditions, including: Baker's cyst; Bursitis; Carpal tunnel syndrome; Chondromalacia patella; De Quervain's tenosynovitis; Frozen shoulder; Gout; Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis; Lupus; Morton's neuroma; Myofascial pain syndrome; Osteoarthritis; Plantar fasciitis; Pseudogout; Psoriatic arthritis; Reactive arthritis; Rheumatoid arthritis; Rotator cuff injury; Sarcoidosis; Tendinitis; Tennis elbow.
What are Cortisone Shots: Cortisone shots are injections that may help relieve pain and inflammation in a specific area of your body. Cortisone shots are most commonly given in joints — such as ankle, elbow, hip, knee, shoulder, spine and wrist and the small joints in hands and feet. Cortisone shots usually include a corticosteroid medication and a local anesthetic. The number of cortisone shots you can receive in one year may be limited because of potential side effects from the medication.
Cortisone Shot Risks: Death of nearby bone (osteonecrosis); Joint infection; Nerve damage; Skin and soft tissue thinning around injection site; Temporary flare of pain and inflammation in the joint; Tendon weakening or rupture; Thinning of nearby bone (osteoporosis); Whitening or lightening of the skin around injection site.
Limit Cortisone Shots: Repeated use of cortisone shots may cause deterioration of the cartilage within a joint. For this reason, doctors typically limit the number of cortisone shots in a joint. In general, people with rheumatoid arthritis may be limited to three or four cortisone shot per joint per year. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cortisone-shots/MY00268
How Cortisone Shots Work to relieve pain? They only provide temporary relief and are often given multiple times. Cortisone injections decrease inflammation in an injured part of the body. When body tissue is injured, a series of events occurs locally and within the bloodstream to promote healing. Inflammation can result from this healing process and, frequently, the inflammation causes pain. Injecting corticosteroids into the inflamed area helps to calm the inflammation. As the inflammation subsides, the pain does, too. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-04-11/lifestyle/sns-201204101600--tms--premhnstr--k-a20120411apr11_1_injections-cortisone-rheumatoid-arthritis
Garlic works as an antibiotic decongestant and as an aid to fight inflammation. As a home remedy the Mayo Clinic includes garlic as a treatment option for earaches and sinus congestion. To treat ear infections, New Hampshire-based herbalist and nutritionist Linda Kingsbury recommends pricking a garlic oil capsule with a pin, soaking a cotton ball with the oil and leaving the cotton ball in your ear overnight. Another option is to ingest 500 mg garlic oil capsules daily for seven days to knock out the infection. http://www.livestrong.com/article/183222-home-remedies-for-sinus-ear-infections/#ixzz2NfMNIJiT
