Experts Won't Eat These Foods ... Why should we?

It looks and tastes the same; the FDA would not allow harmful food additives; organic food is costly; ... going to buy Haagn Daz because of the commercial. We the eating public want to know the rationale behind their expert decisions.

Endocrinologist at University of Missouri, I won’t go near Canned Tomatoes

The problem: The resin linings of tin cans contain bisphenol-A, a synthetic estrogen linked to reproductive problems, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. The solution: Choose tomatoes in glass bottles.

Polyface Farms co-owner will not eat Corn-Fed Beef, The problem: Cattle evolved to eat grass, not grains. Farmers feed their animals corn and soybeans to fatten the animals faster for slaughter. More money for cattle farmers means lower grocery store prices and a lot less nutrition for us. We need to respect the fact that cows are herbivores, and that does not mean feeding them corn and chicken manure. The solution: Buy grass-fed beef.

A senior toxicologist at Environmental Working Group will not eat: Microwave Popcorn

The problem: Chemicals including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in the lining of the bag vaporize–and migrate into your popcorn when micro-waved. The chemicals accumulate in

your body over years and may cause liver, testicular, and pancreatic cancer. If you’re still eating microwave popcorn you’re not fully grasping the health consequences. The solution: Pop organic kernels the old-fashioned way in a skillet. See: The Health Alert: The Best Faux Popcorn

Farm Director of the National Organic Standards Board will not eat Nonorganic Potatoes

The problem: Root vegetables absorb herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides that wind up in soil. Potatoes–the nation’s most popular vegetable–are treated with fungicides during the growing season, sprayed with herbicides to kill off the fibrous vines before harvesting. After they’re dug up, the potatoes are treated yet again to prevent them from sprouting. Experiment: Buy a conventional potato in a store and try to get it to sprout. It won’t.

Growers would never eat the potatoes they sell; they have separate plots where they grow potatoes without all the chemicals. The solution: Buy organic potatoes.

Fisheries Expert director of the Institute for Health and the Environment at the University at Albany will not eat Farmed Salmon The problem: Nature didn’t intend for salmon to be crammed into pens and fed soy, poultry litter, and hydrolyzed chicken feathers. Farmed salmon is lower in vitamin D and higher in contaminants, carcinogens, PCBs, brominated flame retardants, and pesticides such as dioxin and DDT. When you eat farmed salmon, you get dosed with the same drugs and chemicals. The solution: Switch to wild-caught Alaska salmon – not fresh Atlantic.

A Cancer Researcher [project director of the Campaign for Safe Food at the Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility and former CEO of the Oregon division of the American Cancer Society] will not drink Milk Produced with Artificial Hormones. The problem: Milk producers treat dairy cattle with recombinant bovine growth hormone to boost milk production. But rBGH also increases udder infections and even pus in the milk. It leads to higher levels of a hormone called insulin-like growth factor in milk. High levels of IGF-1 may contribute to breast, prostate, colon cancers in people. It is banned in most industrialized countries. The solution: Buy raw milk or check labels for rBGH-free, rBST-free, or organic milk.

The Biotech Specialist [past projects director for genetically engineered food and past consultant, manager and director for Xenon Pharmaceuticals and Genon Corporation] won’t eat GMO Unfermented Soy. The problem: Genetically engineered food is the manipulation of DNA and genetic code including transfers from one species to another. Soy affects hormonal balance and can cause cancer; almost 90% of soy in the world is genetically modified long-term health problems are inevitable. Fermented soy is the only soy food fit for human consumption. The solution: Check labels to ensure soy is Non-GMO or organic; never consume unfermented sources. See: Bio Technology & You

The Organic-Foods Expert [former executive for agribusiness is co-director of the Cornucopia Institute] won’t eat Conventional Apples. The problem: Apples are individually grafted descended from a single tree as to maintain each verity’s distinctive flavor. Apples don’t develop resistance to pests and are sprayed frequently. It’s just common sense to minimize exposure by avoiding the most pesticides doused produce. Farm workers have higher rates of many cancers; studies link pesticides from all sources with Parkinson’s disease. The solution: Buy organic apples or apples from a farmer you trust!

What am I Feeding My Children?

Holsteins are injected with bovine growth hormone rbST and produce ten times more milk than normal - about 100 pounds per day. This inappropriately high level of milk production and the methods of obtaining it leave the animals extremely sick and prone to bacterial and viral infections. Most common affliction is chronic mastitis a painful sore udder infection. However the cows are still milked causing blood and pus from their infections to end up in the milk consumed by humans.http://www.saawinternational.org/cows.htm

An Ohio mom noticed that a Great Value ice cream sandwich left out on their patio table hadn't fully melted after 12 hours on an 80-degree day. Leaving another Walmart [ice cream?] sandwich alongside a Klondike bar and a pint of Haagen Dazs ice cream she tested: The Haagen Dazs ice cream melted fastest and the Klondike bar melted too. A business insider reports the product also contains additives. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/07/25/walmart-ice-cream-sandwiches_n_5621240.html?cps=gravity

The use of rbST in milk production elevates levels of insulin-like growth factor - a hormone that is linked to cancers and other diseases. INTERNATIONAL DAIRY FOODS ASS'N v. BOGGS - Argued: June 10, 2010

In 2010 Baskin Robbins heir John Robbins wrote: Ben & Jerry’s gets all their milk from dairies that have pledged not to inject their cows with genetically engineered bovine growth hormone (rBGH). Ice cream giants Haagen Dazs, Breyers and Baskin-Robbins continue to use milk from rBGH injected cows. http://nourishingplot.com/2014/05/05/baskin-robbins-heir-wont-eat-their-ice-cream-because-of-ingredients/

GM Cows Produce Human Milk - Madd Science-test Run Amuck

While we condemn mother’s breast feeding in public places - Scientists have produced cows that make human milk. See: http://www.thehealthalert.blogspot.com/2014/07/breast-feeding-in-public-food-not-vessel.html

Scientists have created genetically modified cattle that produce "human" milk. Scientists used cloning technology to introduce human genes into the DNA of Holstein dairy cows before the genetically modified embryos were implanted into surrogate cows.

In the scientific journal Public Library of Science One researchers said they were able to create cows that produced milk containing a human protein lysozyme.  Lysozyme is an antimicrobial protein naturally found in large quantities in human breast milk. It helps to protect infants from bacterial infections during their early days of life. They have produce three generations of GM cows. http://www.sott.net/article/226724-Genetically-modified-cows-produce-human-milk
